On July 4, 2026, the APEC China Year Symposium on Global Technology Governance and Legal Innovation, held together with the Third Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Law and Technology Symposium, took place at the Lihu campus of Shenzhen University. The conference was hosted by Shenzhen University's Department of Social Sciences and School of Law, organized by the University's Institute of Law and Technology, Institute of Foreign-Related Rule of Law, and the Ministry of Justice Key Laboratory for Rule-of-Law Big Data and Intelligent Equipment Applications, and co-organized by Beijing Lianggao (Shenzhen) Law Firm.
More than two hundred participants attended, drawn from institutions including the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Peking University, Tsinghua University, Renmin University of China, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, the University of Macau, and Meiji University of Japan, along with representatives of Huawei, ZTE, Honor, OPPO, Meituan, and legal technology companies. LawMay P.C. was invited to attend and to join the discussion of global technology governance and foreign-related rule of law.
LawMay's Presentation
Claire Wu of LawMay was invited to present on "The Boundaries and Rules Governing AI Tools in Legal Services."
Beginning from actual U.S. and Chinese judicial decisions, Ms. Wu surveyed the current state of the rules governing attorney use of AI across major jurisdictions — the European Union, the United States, the United Kingdom, and Singapore — and analyzed the gap now facing China: individual decisions but no systematic rules; general legislation but no professional standards; local guidance but no nationally uniform position.
On that basis, Ms. Wu offered two recommendations, both forward-looking and operational: first, to move promptly toward a nationally uniform baseline for attorney use of AI; and second, at the firm level, to implement AI verification through documentation — ensuring that each step of AI-assisted work is traceable and capable of review. The presentation combined an international perspective with attention to domestic conditions and drew considerable interest from the academics and practitioners present.
Closing
As a firm focused on foreign-related legal services, LawMay follows developments in global technology governance and legal innovation closely. Participating in this conference both reflected the firm's accumulated work at the intersection of artificial intelligence and legal services and expressed our commitment to helping the Chinese legal profession contribute more professional voices to global technology governance.
LawMay will continue its work in foreign-related legal services and at the frontier of legal technology, providing clients with legal services of greater international perspective and professional depth.
